Music & Sound Therapy Pet Loss Support Group at the Teddy Cat Cafe

Rainbow Sound Therapy and I are very excited to host our Quarter 2 Pet Loss Support Group at the Teddy Cat Cafe on May 19th at 4pm. This will be an hour support group where you can connect with other pet owners, honor your loved pets, meet some cats, and experience music through a sound bowl meditation and group songwriting. Tickets are $30 and part of the proceeds go towards the cat cafe and their mission to help cats get adopted.

Cider Serenade: A Fundraiser for Music Therapy in Colorado

When I am not running my business, I am volunteering on the board for a non-profit, the Colorado Association for Music Therapy (CAMT). We have a fundraiser coming up this Fall in Boulder. On October 22nd at BOCO Cider, we will be hosting a day full of live music, a silent auction, and more to raise money for music therapy in Colorado.

Autism Community Store

I hope to see you at the Autism Community Store for a free interactive music session at 11:30am on August 20th! My class will feature drumming, instrument play, and movement. Everyone is welcome to come and experience the class however they would like to whether that is singing, dancing, playing, or listening!

"Using Yoga and Music Together to Promote Self-Empowerment in Adults with IDD" Workshop

Join Bonnie Houpt, MT- BC and Kathleen Martins, M.S., AYT for a one-hour Zoom workshop on using yoga and music together. Bonnie and Kathleen collaborated together to develop yoga and music programming for adults with IDD through grant funding, which will be explained and discussed during the workshop.

The workshop is $30, which includes access to a link of a recording of the event whether you attend live or not that will be available for 90 days.

Participants will leave with 3 tips for the grant writing process as well as 3 activities that use music and yoga and were successful with adults with IDD.

The workshop will be in a presentation format along with interactive activities but feel free to use the Zoom chat during the event to expand on the ideas and ask questions. There will be time for questions at the end. During the event, you can have your camera on or leave it off and just listen- whatever works best for you!

1 CMTE credit is available for music therapists under CBMT's "Other Continuing Education Opportunities." Instructions on how to complete a summary if audited and a certificate of completion will be available for people who attend and complete the workshop.

Spring Inclusive Bucket Drumming

If you or your child are looking to learn how to drum in an active, loud group setting, bucket drumming is for you! Join us for one hour at Guided by Humanity to bang on some bucket drums. Safe Saturday Social- An Online Music Class!

The pandemic has been difficult, and for many families, in-person groups are still not a safe option. In response to serve the community, this group is for those families. If you are looking for a fun Saturday activity for your child, consider joining our Safe Saturday Social, an online music group to promote connecting and engaging with peers in a safe environment. Groups will be 30 minutes long and led by board-certified music therapist, Bonnie Houpt on Zoom.

Online Summer Bucket Drumming 2021

Want to learn how to drum? Looking for the convenience of logging in from home or a different time zone, or want to participate in a safe way? Come be a part of an inclusive online bucket drumming group where basic technique and rhythm reading will be taught while also playing music together in a group.

Students will:

A bucket drum is optional and not required. You may drum on anything at home that could work as a drum (i.e. a kitchen bowl, a pillow, etc.) Drum sticks are highly recommended, but again things at home can act as substitutes (i.e. wooden kitchen spoons, paint sticks, etc.)

Summer Bucket Drumming for Teens and Adults

Want to learn how to drum? Come be a part of an inclusive bucket drumming group where basic technique and rhythm reading will be taught while also playing music together in a group. Sticks and drums will be provided.

Classes will be held at Guided by Humanity’s studio every Saturday at 2pm from July 17th to August 21st:

3496 S. Broadway

Englewood, CO. 80113

Students will:

  • Learn foundational percussion technique and rhythm reading

  • Learn basic drumline warm-ups

  • Learn basic drum set beats

  • Engage in musical games/songwriting with the group

  • Play arranged drum beats with the group to preferred songs

6 Week Season- 1 Hour Sessions at 2pm Mountain Time

Introduction to Music and Instruments at Milestone Pediatrics Therapy Services

Class Details:

Join us for an 8-week class where students will learn introductory-level playing skills on the guitar, ukulele, piano, voice, and hand drums. Each session will focus on one of the instruments, including a session of musical experiences that would be used in music therapy. The course will be led by Bonnie Houpt, board-certified music therapist (MT-BC). The students will have a chance to learn new skills on each instrument, discover which instruments they like best, and play with their peers.

 Class Schedule:

Group 1 Saturday mornings from 9:00 am -9:45 am

Group 2 Saturday mornings from 10:00 am -10:45 am

Class is 8 weeks;

Starting Saturday July 10th - August 28th

Self-Empowerment through Music and Yoga

Join one of our virtual 6 workshops for adults with disabilities to develop self-empowering coping skills through songwriting, drumming, and yoga. Participants will get the opportunity to participate in an hour and a half workshop where they will learn about different coping skills and then experience the skills through yoga and music in a group songwriting and movement experience. Participants will also leave with handouts about the skills they learned in class as well as the final product of the group songwriting.

Thanks to Developmental Pathways this class is only $5! Participants can sign up for as many classes as they would like, but the content of each day will be the same.
